Action!

From the Family Research Council Action Update:

The Chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is getting in the holiday spirit by urging his agency to give Americans an unexpected present this Christmas-free broadband Internet. For the past two years, FCC boss Kevin Martin has backed a plan that would use a bundle of inactive airwaves for wireless service across the U.S. Sweetening the deal for parents is Martin's condition that the broadband not only be fee-free but porn-free. Assuming the vote passes at the FCC's December 18 meeting, the winning bidder on the project must agree to install a filter that blocks adult content. Critics have pounced on the idea, complaining that Martin's family-friendly plan violates Americans' right to smut. Hardly, FRC argues, since users still have the option of paying for a service of their choice or removing the filter once they have proven to be 18 years of age. For parents burdened by web fees and cautious about Internet sleaze, the proposal is a win-win.

FRC has been supportive of the idea since it was developed and presented to Martin, and our team will continue to work with the administration to see it through. However, if the project does not have the support of at least three of the five commissioners on December 18, the issue may not be raised again before the agency switches hands.

Join us in nudging FCC Commissioners Deborah Taylor Tate (202-418-2500), Michael Copps (202-418-2000), Jonathan Adelstein (202-418-2300), and Robert McDowell (202-418-2200) to support Martin's plan by contacting their offices.

Fox and Profanity

Parent's Television Council writes:

On the Thursday, November 20th episode of Fox's Kitchen Nightmares, during a conversation with another individual, one man said to another, "We have Mr. Gordon on our f****** side." This use of the f-word was not bleeped, and aired at approximately 8:15 p.m. ET – only 7:15 in the Central and Mountain time zones, the very heart of the Family Hour.

Fox has sued the Federal Communications Commission for enforcing broadcast decency laws, claiming that the f-word is just a "fleeting profanity." The network is claiming it has a "First Amendment right" to air whatever language it wants, whenever it wants, no matter how many children are in the audience. But even after a hearing before the Supreme Court, Fox is not changing its behavior.

In addition to the unbleeped f-word, there were literally dozens of other partially-bleeped f-words and other profanities present in the episode. This eliminates any notion that the show's profanity is "fleeting."

Sears- Some good news!

"These days, it's tough to find companies that share your values. But this holiday season, FRC is catching some retailers in the act of doing good. At Sears, they're giving back to the community by supporting our troops. By law, employers are required to hold jobs open for any military personnel who are called up for duty. Sears is doing our soldiers one better. To protect their workers from taking a pay cut and losing their benefits when they leave for the front lines, Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits-including medical insurance and bonus programs. A Sears Customer Service rep said, "[We] regard service to our country as one of the greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear." We salute Sears and other corporations who make their own sacrifices on behalf of America's bravest." (FRC email blast)

You can bet, I'll be doing some Christmas shopping at Sears to show my appreciation this year.

Thanks Parents Television Council for standing for decency on television!

Children Exploited for Sex across the U.S.

We have got to do all we can to prevent our children from being exploited.

This story affirms why:

Girls as young as 12 are being exploited for sex in Portland, Ore., according to an NBC investigation.

Teri Williams used to be one of them. “You're a prisoner," she told NBC's Portland affiliate KGW. "No one is going to let you go. You are the pimp’s meal ticket.”

Authorities say there are hundreds of girls still stuck on the streets of Portland. Human-trafficking investigators and government researchers estimate the average pimp in the U.S. can make more than $200,000 a year off one young girl.

Prop 102 WINS!!!!

After a long and arduous campaign, the supporters of Prop 102 were victorious. The citizens of Arizona cast their ballot in favor of marriage between one man and one woman. Prop 102 passed 56% to 44%. And just as remarkable was the passage of the marriage amendments in both California and Florida.

We appreciate the overwhelming amount of volunteers and the sacrifice of your time.

Choose Life!

There are several important issues to consider in this election.  Some of the most important, however, are moral issues.  If you don't know who to vote for, but know that voting for Life is important, watch this clip.  It leaves no questions as to where each candidate stands on this one very important issue. Remember, the next president will probably appoint two Supreme Court Justices, who cannot be removed except for death. Choose Life.

How do you boil a frog?

You boil a frog a degree at a time -- and the heat is on!

In Massachusetts in 2003, judges changed the definition of marriage to include same sex couples.

The following tells of the changes that have happened since. This is more than the few things that you've heard.

The most infuriating thing to me is that the schools will not even allow parents to be informed when and what they are teaching about homosexuality in their children's classes.

This is a quote from the preceeding link,
"In 2005, when David Parker, of Lexington, MA - a parent of a kindergartner - strongly insisted on being notified when teachers were discussing homosexuality or transgenderism with his son, the school had him arrested and put in jail overnight."

Right here in Arizona, the heat is getting turned up - check this out!

Maricopa County Board of Supervisors are debating a proposed rule change to include "gender identity and expression" to the community colleges' non-discrimination policy.
Here is some of what this policy change includes:
*Men on campus who claim they are really women will have the right to use women's   dressing rooms and locker rooms.
*Men will have the right to dress as women in class and teachers will be disciplined if they complain, no matter how disruptive the attire.
*Teachers will be required to call students by their preferred pronouns and opposite sex names.
*Your tax dollars may be used to fund sex change operations for teachers and staff.

Please contact the members of the governing board through this web site:

http://www.maricopa.edu/gvbd/

and tell them you are opposed to this change!

The board will be making its decision on October 28th.
They have invited the public to comment by email or otherwise.

So let's send in our comments !

Connecticut Supreme Court Rules For Same Sex Marriage

"It's outrageous and shameful that the Connecticut Supreme

every facet of society as we know it.

Oprah takes a stand

I actually agree with Oprah on something. Internet child porn is devastating and must be dealt with. Because more and more people are becoming addicted to child porn, it is becoming more graphic and destructive.

The article talks about a bill coming to the Senate:
-About the Protecting our Children Bill:
-Will authorize over $320 million over the next five years in desperately needed funding -for law enforcement to investigate child exploitation.
-Mandate that child rescue be a top priority for law enforcement receiving federal funding.
-Allocate funds for high-tech computer software that can track down Internet predators.

We are finding out more information about the bill and will keep you updated shortly.

American Airlines

American Airlines has decided to put unfiltered Internet access on their airplanes. This is potentially an enormous problem. Imagine flying American and the passenger next to is viewing porn on his/her laptop. What do you do? Do you report it to the flight attendant? This is just another responsibility of the flight attendant- policing the Internet. What if the flight attendant says it is not porn and the passenger continues viewing it? WHAT IF YOUR CHILD IS SITTING NEXT TO SOMEONE VIEWING PORN ON AN AIRPLANE???

Unfiltered Internet access on airplanes is a bad choice.

What you MUST do:
E-mail American Airlines Communications: corp.comm@aa.com, or call AA headquarters at, 817-963-1234, and press 0. Tell them to correct this mistake and insist they apply filters to Internet services immediately.

Thank you Girls Against Porn for taking a stand and encouraging AA to filter the Internet!!

The Most Powerful Commercial

You have got to watch this!

TV Show- 90210

This is unbelievable that we are dealing with something like this:

On the heels of its teen-sex-and-drug series Gossip Girl, on September 1st the CW launched 90210, a spin-off/sequel to the 1990s series Beverly Hills 90210. After the recent round of disastrous publicity which the CW received for its Gossip Girl ads, the network decided to withhold previews of 90210 from critics or advertisers. Now we know why: the 90210 premiere featured an implied scene of high school children engaged in oral sex. This scene appeared in the show's first minutes, at 8:00 p.m. ET (only 7:00 p.m. in the Central and Mountain time zones). The episode also contained underage drinking, scads of profanity, and a scene in which two teens tour the set of a pornographic movie...and all this was on the teen-targeted program's first episode!

"The CW Network has openly, wantonly and eagerly violated every business tenet of the broadcast industry. They shocked viewers during the family hour by depicting high school children engaged in oral sex in their car; they sucker-punched their ultimate customers – the program’s sponsors, by not adequately disclosing the nature of this scene in the program; and they directly and intentionally marketed this adult fare to children," said PTC President Tim Winter.

McDonald's Does It Again

A document shows McDonald's requested a 10% "group discount" to a recent pro-homosexual training seminar.

The conference, held in Austin, TX, was designed to train employees how to effectively advance homosexuality in the workplace and to persuade top corporate officials to embrace the lifestyle by offering special recognition and benefits to gay employees.

For example, McDonald's health benefits package includes full coverage for sex-change procedures, post-operative recovery, and mental health counseling throughout the process.

Action-
VERY IMPORTANT. Call your local McDonald's. Speak with the manager. Tell him or her (in a polite manner) that you will be boycotting McDonald's until they stop promoting the homosexual agenda, including homosexual marriage. To find the phone number of your nearest McDonald's, click here. Enter your zip code and click "Enter," then click the "Visit/Apply" link for your store, then click the "Click Here to see what's happening at the restaurant" link. The phone number will appear.

Presidential Candidates and Pornography

Taken from an email from Morality In Media:

NEW YORK (August, 11, 2008) – On August 7, Morality in Media received an email that stated in part: “As a very concerned citizen, I have to wonder why pornography isn't even an issue on the radar screen in the upcoming…elections. I can certainly understand why certain sectors of the population don't bring it to the forefront, and I can understand why candidates don't address it, but why don't organizations like MIM bring it up CONSTANTLY? I'd really like to nail down the candidates on their views and the methods they plan to use to enforce pornography laws, then hold them to it. Please, please, please do what you can - my letters and emails to candidates go unanswered!”

Robert Peters, President of Morality in Media, had the following comments:

In April 2008, MIM commissioned Harris Interactive to ask this question in a national survey: “Were the next president to do all in his or constitutional power to ensure that federal obscenity laws are enforced vigorously against commercial distributors of hardcore pornography, would you support or oppose the President in this matter?” An astounding 75% said they would support the President; only 19% said they wouldn’t. These poll results prompted no response from the Presidential candidates.

In May, MIM organized a conference at the National Press Club, followed by an orderly demonstration at the Justice Department, to call attention to the Department’s failure to enforce federal obscenity laws vigorously. Both John McCain and Barack Obama were invited to attend the Conference or to send a written statement expressing their views on enforcement of federal obscenity laws.

A representative of the McCain Campaign called to say that the Senator could not attend but they hoped to send either Senator Sam Brownback or former Senator Dan Coates. Neither could attend. Another representative of the McCain Campaign called to say a written statement would be forthcoming. No written statement was ever issued. The Obama Campaign did not respond at all.

After the Conference, follow-up letters were sent to both candidates. Neither candidate has responded to those letters. MIM members and others were also urged to contact the candidates. The Obama Campaign responded to one email (which asked the candidate to state his views on enforcement of federal obscenity laws) with a general letter that did not mention pornography or obscenity.

Indiana Grandmas

In Indiana, the county council has granted business to a porn shop. Since then, some grandmas have taken up to fighting porn in creative ways. When one grandma, Joyce Gillaspy, sees a truck in the parking lot:

"We call and let the companies know their trucks are in this porn store, and they don't want their trucks being seen [there]," says Gillaspy.

Another genius idea is:

"When customers pull in, we take photographs and [license] plate numbers, and then the War-Line deciphers which ones they want to put on," said Debbie Howard.

War-Line is a website that gives voice to protesters.

Thank you, Indiana Grandmas!!

A Mom's Influence

A recent study in Idaho found that when mom's talk to their high school and college aged children about drinking, their children listen. About 1 in 4 college students admit to being binge drinkers. After multiple conversations with their mom about drinking, that statistic drastically decreased to 1 in 10.

Child Porn vs Child Protection

Concerned Women has published an article regarding the 'fine line' of protecting our children or 'protecting' those who view child porn. Has our society become so desensitized that people who view and peddle child porn are not convicted on these heinous crimes?

The article continues:

It is symptomatic of the condition of our culture today that the Express, a daily newspaper for commuters published by the Washington Post, can feature a piece in its entertainment section about an indie-rock band known as the New Pornographers without raising any eyebrows. But let someone speak out against pornography and suddenly people get uncomfortable.

We’ve reached the point where we blindly ignore gross and horrific child abuse. And we’ve become so comfortable in our upscale communities that we don’t want to acknowledge what the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) calls “the seedy and sophisticated underworld” of child porn.

McDonald's Letter

I received a letter in response to my request for McDonald's to remain neutral in the culture war. They have no intentions of deviating from their current course. Until then, I will continue give my business to Sonic!

McDonald's Is Not Backing Down

The big hamburger giant, McDonald's, is not backing down. We have learned that McDonald's paid $20,000 to have a seat on the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. They are consistently responding to requests to remain neutral in the culture by telling people they are motivated by hate.

Here's the latest McDonald's news:
Now we learn that McDonald’s sponsors training for homosexuals on how to promote their agenda among corporations from the inside. Out & Equal™ Workplace Advocates is a national organization devoted to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the workplace. One of its primary purposes is to train employees how to aggressively promote homosexuality within the company they work for, all the way to the corporate boardroom. Part of last year’s Out & Equal Summit in Washington, DC, (sponsored by McDonald’s) was an organized march into congressional offices demanding same-sex marriage laws be passed. (AFA Action Alert)

Why Is Pornography Rampant?

The Bill Clinton/Janet Reno Justice Department put a stop to federal obscenity law enforcement in 1993 and left much of the country, years later, unaware that the law even exists.

That widespread ignorance of the law on obscenity is an appalling legacy of the Clinton/Reno decision 15 years ago. Without enforcement, it became easy to forget there was a law. And now there’s so much porn around people are left to assume it must be legal. Why else would the government do nothing about it?

Adult Video News called the Clinton years a time of “benevolent neglect” and a “free ride” for the porn racketeers. In the run-up to the 2000 elections, AVN warned that the free ride was “probably about to end.” The George W. Bush administration is only now, eight years after Clinton and Reno left office, beginning to put an end to the “free ride.”

But, even with the Mukasey Justice Department moving forward in the war against obscenity, it’s going to take time to get the word out. Lots of folks still don’t get it:

obscenity is not harmless; nor is it protected Free Speech.

And there are felony criminal laws against it.

Hallmark's Response

I emailed Hallmark about their new line of cards targeting homosexuals. Here's their response:

Beginning this summer, Hallmark's selection of more than 200 wedding cards will include four cards that use specific language and images appropriate for same-sex wedding ceremonies or civil unions. Hallmark makes cards for all kinds of relationships and situations, and we have for years produced cards for relationships that might be defined as "non-traditional" - including heterosexual couples who are not married, those in mixed race or interfaith relationships and blended families - so people in each of these situations could find cards to meet their needs. It is our goal to be inclusive rather than exclusive so that our products appeal to the widest range of people who wish to communicate and connect with one another. Not every one of the more than 200 wedding cards we offer will be
right for every relationship, but we want every consumer to be able to find one that is just right.

We understand that this is a sensitive issue for you and appreciate you letting us know your concerns.

Thanks,
Hallmark Customer Care

I will continue to use my buying power and shop other card companies.

Hallmark

The privately owned company, Hallmark, has decided to create and sell homosexual wedding cards. The cards feature 2 tuxedos on the front with hearts intertwined. In 2007, Hallmark began selling 'coming out' cards for their gay customers. Why do companies such as Hallmark feel the need to endorse homosexual values? At some point, companies will decide to place values over profits.

Send Hallmark an email and let them know of your disapproval.

Contact Presidential Candidates

If you haven’t done so already (or haven’t gotten an answer yet), please contact the Candidate(s) of your choice and ask them where they stand on enforcement of federal obscenity laws.

America’s Independent Party (Alan Keyes): contact@alankeyes.com
Constitution Party (Chuck Baldwin): chuck@chuckbaldwinlive.com
Democratic Party (Barack Obama): http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/contact2
Green Party (Cynthia McKinney): http://www2.runcynthiarun.org/TalkBack
Libertarian Party (Bob Barr): http://www.bobbarr2008.com/contact/form/?type=4
Ralph Nader: http://www.votenader.org/contact/
Republican Party (John McCain): http://www.johnmccain.com/Contact/

Here is some suggested language (long & short versions):

Despite the fact that there are federal obscenity laws on the books that have been upheld by the Supreme Court, hardcore pornographic materials continue to proliferate, especially on the Internet. Among other things, obscene materials tarnish our national image, destroy marriages, and corrupt children. They also contribute to sexual exploitation of children, to trafficking in women and children and to rape. What is your position on enforcement of federal obscenity laws? If elected, will you do all in your power to see that these laws are vigorously enforced? The American people deserve an honest answer to these questions.

Victorious In Defeating Porn

A prosecuting attorney in Virginia won a case against hard-core pornography. A porn in Virginia opened up and began selling hard-core pornography. After showing the jury what the store sold, the jury convicted the store owner. He must close the doors or risk facing a felony prosecution.

If a prosecuting attorney can do this in Virginia, why isn't the Department of Justice and the US Government begin prosecuting hard-core pornography? The case can be won! The DOJ feels because of its limited resources that it can only go after the most terrible forms of pornography.

Isn't That the Truth?!

"All great change in America begins at the dinner table."

HIV Rate Higher Than Expected

The latest numbers are in from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). And they are astounding. In 2006, the United States detected 56,000 new HIV infections; they only expected to see 40,000.

In an email from Citizenlink.com it says:

Male-to-male transmission accounted for almost 60 percent of new infections in 2006, according to the CDC, while 34 percent occurred among people ages 13-29.

“I feel great compassion for these men, because I’ve had different friends who are HIV-positive, friends who have died with AIDS," said Jeff Johnston, gender issues analyst for Focus on the Family Action. "Outside of a faithful marriage between a man and a woman, there is no 'safe sex.' It is irresponsible to teach people that you can have 'safe sex' or 'safer sex' outside of marriage.”

Democratic National Committee

The DNC gave $25,000 to defeat California's Proposition 8 which defines marriage between a man and a women. The DNC is is moving farther to the left when polls show that 30% of California Democrats do not support same sex marriage.

Why is the DNC so committed to this effort when they are going against their base?

Abortions

The American Psychological Association declared that if women have only 1 abortion that it will not have a significant effect on their mental health.

“The report basically admits that if you’ve had multiple abortions, your risk for mental-health problems may be greater," she said. ”If you've been pressured or coerced into an abortion, you may have an even more negative experience."

Sixty percent of abortions are either repeat abortions or those in which the women are pressured to have one.

"That’s millions of women whose needs and psychological problems are not represented in this report," Earll said. "The APA is spinning the results to their desired political conclusion, which is that they want to keep abortion legal and promoted in the culture.”

Red Flags

"It's like Sex and the City with more drama and for younger kids...It's kind of like what you want life to be." -- 14-year-old fan Layla Alter, eagerly anticipating the new season of the CW network's program Gossip Girl (Reuters, July 31, 2008)(Parents TV council email)

Does this quote alarm anybody?! You can not tell me that what we watch on TV does not have an effect on society as a whole.

Children between the ages of 13 and 17 spend an average of 33.35 days a year in front of a television or movie screen-- IMMI data research organization (www.immi.com, August 3, 2007)(Parents TV council email)

Just imagine the amount of good that could be done in the world if we put the 13-17 year olds to work on a humanitarian project for 1 month every year. Imagine the self esteem boost for this vulnerable age group if they spent time helping other people.

How much more time is spent in front of computers?

Another CBS Disregard For Indecency

This last Tuesday, CBS show Big Brother aired during primetime. During the broadcast, the "F word" was used. CBS in no way tried to cover this up. The show is not aired live and CBS could have easily bleeped this obscenity. Unfortunately, they chose not to.

As you may know, CBS recently won a court case for overturning the FCC's fine for the wardrobe malfunction during the Super Bowl Halftime show.

CBS does not care about morality or decency as their record shows. Please write and encourage them to rise above the filth.

Campanies Do Listen

Recently, Ace Hardware began advertising on the disgusting CBS show Swingtown. After 1 short day of emailing Ace asking them to remove their ads, Ace replied that they would. Here is some insight from the letter Ace sent to One Million Moms:

When the media buy was placed for the show that aired Friday, August 8, we were unaware of the questionable content that would be included in that particular episode. While Ace, like all advertisers, is never given the opportunity to preview shows before the advertising is placed against our target demographic, we have made the decision to permanently cease all advertising on this particular CBS show, effective immediately.

Thank you Ace! We appreciate your commitment to family values and decency.

Ronald Reagan Quote

Indeed, Reagan underscored the value of the family when defending his tax policy in a 1985 address to the nation. “There is no instrument of hard work, savings, and job creation as effective as the family,” he said. “There is no cultural institution as ennobling as family life. And there is no superior, indeed no equal, means to rear the young, protect the weak, or attend the elderly. None.”

Quoted from Rebecca Hagelin in her article.

China and Internet Porn

The Chinese are seriously concerned about the effects of Internet porn. And they should be. China is the 2nd biggest population on the Internet with 137 million users.

MSNBC Reports-
In China's biggest online porn case to date, a Web site operator, Chen Hui, was sentenced in November to life in prison. The government said Chen's Web site had more than 9 million pornographic images and more than 600,000 registered users.

There are countless more stories.

California Porn Tax Bill

Details from Shelley Lubben's blog:

Porn Tax Bill Passed 5-4!!!
Please read below a letter from Assemblyman Charles Calderon regarding Daphne and I testifying at California State Capitol on May 12, 2008, in support of AB2914 Adult Entertainment Tax Bill which will tax pornography and the adult entertainment industry at the rate of 25% of gross receipts received in this state on or after October 1, 2008. I've been informed the bill did pass out of the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee and is now on its way to becoming a law!

Please keep praying the bill will go all the way as this tax measure will help individuals and families deal with the physical and emotional negative effects of the adult industry. We know God hears your prayers and wants to protect those who are exploited and abused by the porn industry. Thank you for supporting us!

Thank you Assemblyman Calderon for giving us the opportunity to testify and tell the truth about the porn industry. We will continue to support your efforts.

To learn more about the AB2914 Bill and who supports it please click here.
To read which assembly members voted on the bill click here.

Finally, the porn industry will have to pay for the damage it causes for many lives!

Planned Parenthood's sex miseducation

Here's another informative article about the evil of Planned Parenthood's new website takecaredownthere.org

We, as parents, need to educate our own children about sex when it is the right time. We must not let the media do this job for us. The media glamorizes sex and teaches everyone that anything goes. Children must learn about this in a loving environment. It is the parent's responsibility and NOT the schools or the government.

Recently released from The Heritage Foundation is the Top 10 Research Findings in the Parent Factor in Teen Sex Outcomes. Look at the difference PARENTS can make!

Ads for Dads

New ads portray the critical role of a dad created pro bono by Campbell Ewald in conjunction with The Advertising Council and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The ads conclude with the tag line "take time to be a dad today."

Please email your thanks for these agencies. One email will go to all 3 agencies.

California Marriage Amendment

I received this email update from Prop 8. It gives you a glimpse of what we are up against.

Our opposition intends to wage a scorched earth campaign through big media funded by Hollywood, labor unions, and big corporations and supported by the people writing the ballot language. Just take a look at what "No on 8" campaign sent out yesterday about a recent Beverly Hills fundraiser:

"Both labor organizations and businesses made significant contributions to NO on 8 – Equality California on Saturday. The Service Employees International Union (SEIU-California) made a contribution of $500,000, presented by United Healthcare Workers-West President Sal Rosselli. David Sanchez, president of the California Teacher's Association announced a contribution $250,000 on behalf of CTA. Ken McNeely, president of AT&T California, presented a donation of $25,000 from the telecommunications corporation. EQCA supporters at the event also pledged an additional combined $350,000. All of those contributions will help fund the NO on 8 campaign."

That's $1,125,000 from a handful of groups in just one night, plus another $500,000 the "Equality California" group is transferring to the No campaign.

You may think this is discouraging. However, it motivates me to work even harder. My vote is just as important as theirs and I will do whatever it takes to get the vote out. Do not fret; we can do this!

ADF v Maricopa Unified School District

The First Baptist Church of Maricopa desired to distribute flyers promoting their youth program, AWANA. However, Maricopa Unified School District did not allow this, because the flyers had religious content. That is when Pastor Jim Johnson contacted the Alliance Defense Fund, because the school was discriminating against religious his religious flyer.

House Republicans won't go home!

I don't usually get too excited about things like this, but this is worth passing on.
Click on the title to check out the video, then look at these press releases and see what you think.. . .

House Republican Leader John Boehner -

Congressman Pence

AZ Congressman John Shadegg

Here's what Jeff Flake said:
Congressman Flake Calls on President Bush to Call Congress Into Special Session Democratic Majority Adjourns for August With No Energy Vote
Washington, D.C., Aug 1 - Republican Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents Arizona’s Sixth District, today called on President Bush to call Congress into a special session during August. Without voting on legislation to address rising gas prices, the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives adjourned today until September. “I often say that taxpayers are better off when Congress is out of session,” said Flake, “but adjourning for August without voting on legislation allowing more domestic energy production will only exacerbate rising fuel costs.” “President Bush ought to call us back into session and force us to deal with an issue that Democrats have thus far been reluctant to address.”

World Net Daily Article

World Net Daily (WND) featured on article on the Marriage Amendment fight in California, Florida and Arizona. It mentions how key religious denominations are going to be in activating and motivating people to vote.

Our own Sally Mikesall, AZ Director of Concerned Women for America, is featured in the article. She said:

"The people of Arizona will be able to decide the future of marriage in their state," she said, referring to Ballot Proposition 102, which states that only a union of one man and one woman will be valid or recognized as a marriage in Arizona. "Judges will not make the decision for the citizens as the activist California Supreme Court did. Hard work must be done in the months ahead to protect the sanctity of marriage."

Thanks, Sally, for your passion to leave the world a better place!

TakeCareDownThere.org

Don't go to that website! It is a pornographic website funded by Planned Parenthood. Here is another news story about it. People are beginning to take notice.

Action Item from the Family Research Council:
One way to de-fund the group responsible for obscene material like this is to end the meshing of Title X "family planning" funds with abortion mills. Call the White House switchboard today at 202-456-1414 and ask President Bush to separate these funds before more children are caught up in Planned Parenthood's pornographic web.

You can bet they'll be receiving a call from me on Monday.

Planned Parenthood

The local affiliate of Planned Parenthood in Oregon and Washington has created a new website. TakeCareCownThere.org has posted some of the most disgusting and foul videos aimed at our young people. The website says that it will teach "the ins and outs about the ins and outs." This material is highly inappropriate for anyone, much less teenagers.

We all know that hundreds of millions of our tax dollars go to Planned Parenthood. Unfortunately, Planned Parenthood has put our tax dollars to 'good use' by creating a pornographic website. Just what our kids need.

Please do not visit the website. If you want more information, read here.

Rebecca Hagelin's Latest Column

I'm a big fan of Rebecca Hagelin of The Heritage Foundation. Check out her latest column entitled, Family, The Bedrock of Society.

Homosexual Activists

This week we learned to what extent homosexual activists will go to manipulate the system to redefine marriage for our entire society.

We don't know the total "backstory" yet, but California Attorney General Jerry Brown announced a change to the "title and summary" for the California Marriage Amendment. I have highlighted the change to the right. To summarize, Brown's edits turn the positive of the marriage amendment into a double negative -- it will "eliminate" a "right" and cause "revenue loss…totaling in the several tens of millions of dollars."

Why is this significant? Because the pro-homosexual activists know that many voters will rely upon the summary language when they are casting their votes in November.

Homosexual activists are playing to win. And they're going for the knockout…
Combine this with the recent passage in Colorado of a new law that establishes fines and prison sentences for businesses whose practices run contrary to the homosexual agenda and the move in Massachusetts this month to export homosexual marriage and one thing is clear:

Homosexual activists are playing to win. They are not holding back. They think they have pro-family and pro-faith citizens on the ropes and they are going for the knockout punch!

--Family Research Council

Homosexual activists are proactive and determined to get their message across. We need to be just as proactive in getting a clear, united message across. We have got to educate the voters about the simple language on Proposition 102 and the need for an amendment for the AZ Constitution.

Parents TV Council

A quote from this week's newsletter.

Media Quote of the Week:
"Sex of any kind is a big deal. The advertisement, entertainment and merchandising industries lie to our children about this -- they pretty much make sex look simple, easy and without human meaning...Kids [should know] how cheated they will be if they buy into this deception." -- Debbie Roffman, author of Sex and Sensibility: The Thinking Parent's Guide to Talking Sense About Sex (Washington Post Express, April 16, 2008)

Statistic of the Week:
A high percentage of American teens and tweens (children aged 9-12) say they have experienced a physically or emotionally abusive dating relationship. Sixty nine percent of all teens who had sex by age 14 said they had gone through one or more types of abuse in a relationship. -- survey by Teenage Research Unlimited (Reuters.com, July 10, 2008, via Focus on the Family's Plugged In Online)

Free, National, Wireless, Broadband Service

Sounds good, right? Not if 22 public interest groups have their way.

The FCC is exploring the idea to have free, national, wireless, broadband Internet service. A public auction would be held for bidders to win a zone. The winning bidder must have 95% of the United States covered in 10 years. The Internet providers would make money from ad revenue.

These 22 groups are not concerned with the wireless Internet service. They are concerned that the FCC would require filters on the service.

"The auction winner must provide a feature that "filters or blocks images and text that constitute obscenity or pornography and, in context, as measured by contemporary community standards and existing law, any images or text that otherwise would be harmful to teens and adolescents." The outline defines teens and adolescents as "children 5 through 17 years of age."

The Center for Democracy and Technology uses the same old argument that this violates the First Amendment.

I still believe the Internet Community Ports Act drafted by the CP80 Foundation is the most comprehensive solution to Internet pornography. Watch a video here, then click on CP80 Internet Channel Initiative.

McCain and Obama on Decency

Representatives of both McCain and Obama said, at a recent Washington forum, that their candidate would not support the FCC to bring more attention to broadcast indecency. This was in regards to the latest Janet Jackson scandal at the Super Bowl half-time show.

Why is there not a candidate who will stand up for morality and decency? Why do we have to fight for every act of indecency to be punished? It is ridiculous that CBS, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake are being let off the hook for this horrendous act that 90 million people were subjected to. By not fining these entities, I have lost my choice. Now, there is a precedent set and it's only a matter of time before I am exposed to obscenity again. I want a choice whether or not to view this harmful, degrading, disgusting filth.

And I choose not to.

Presidential Candidates on Preserving Marriage

From MSNBC.COM
The battle for the preservation of marriage will surely be affected by whoever wins the presidential election this November. The new president will appoint Supreme Court justices and depending on those appointees, the delicate balance of the current court – now slightly more conservative since President Bush appointed John Roberts – would shift. On the issue of same-sex “marriage” the views of McCain versus Obama are different and could make a huge difference. The real differences in their opinions on preserving marriage are:
McCain says he believes that each state should be able to decide the issue and he respects the voice of voters. In addition, he supports the federal DOMA law which protects states from having to recognize same-sex “marriages” from other states. While he currently does not support a federal marriage amendment, he has said he would consider it if more states began to mandate same-sex “marriage” through the courts.
Obama says he supports “equal” benefits (refers to them as civil rights) and unions for same-sex couples. He also says he wants to REPEAL DOMA. Lastly he was quoted saying he “respects” the decision of the California Supreme Court”; who usurped the authority of over 4 million citizens of California who voted to protect marriage through proposition 22.

Something To Think About

If you haven't signed up for the email alerts from the Parents Television Council, I suggest you do. I recently did and have been very impressed with their motivation to clean up the television. Here is part of today's email alert:

Media Quote of the Week:

"In our personal lives and in our communities, we can encounter a hostility, something dangerous; a poison which threatens to corrode what is good...[such as] the exaltation of violence and sexual degradation, often presented through television and the internet as entertainment. I ask myself, could anyone standing face to face with people who actually do suffer violence and sexual exploitation 'explain' that these tragedies, portrayed in virtual form, are considered merely 'entertainment'?" -- Pope Benedict XVI, speaking at World Youth Day, Sydney, Australia (Vatican.va, July 17, 2008)

Statistic of the Week:

According to a 2007 Yankelovich poll, 80% of parents think children are being exposed to too much sexual content on TV. (AdAge.com, June 19, 2008)

My thought- If 80% of parents think this, then where is everybody? With a grassroots effort, we can change this.

Harry Reid is responsible for not bringing to vote The Protecting Children from Indecent Programming Act, S. 1780. This Act would give the FCC responsibility to penalize broadcasters for indecent programming.

Please call (866-736-7327) and email Harry Reid and ask him to bring this to vote. You can also contact your own senator to pressure Sen. Reid to bring this to vote.

or from Concerned Women.

COPA Declared Unconstitutional

The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals decided that the Child Online Protection Act (COPA) was unconstitutional declaring that it was overly broad, vague and violated the First Amendment.

COPA was designed specifically to protect children from obscene materials online. However, Chris Hansen with the ACLU said that Congress repeatedly tries to restrict speech on the Internet far more than books or magazines.

Others believed that filters are better at protecting children than the law. We all know this is wrong. Filters are easily circumvented and do not protect children from Internet predators who are specifically targeting children. There has to be a 3 pronged approach: legislation, Internet governance and technology.

Activist Judges. . .again

At the 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show, 90 million people viewed Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction." The FCC fined CBS $550,000 for indecency. CBS appealed the fine. Today, the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed the fine saying the FCC acted "arbitrarily and capriciously."

Tim Winter, president of the Parents Television Council said,
"If a striptease during the Super Bowl in front of 90 million people — including millions of children — doesn’t fit the parameters of broadcast indecency, then what does?”

KTAR

Sunday night on KTAR 92.3, radio host Jay Lawrence opened the phone lines to discuss the AZ Marriage Amendment. The phone lines were jammed as people shared their opinions on whether or not gay marriages were harmful.

I tried several times to get through, but to no avail.

When the media is discussing marriage and the effects, it is our responsibility to call in and express our opinion. We want the media to know that there is a lot of support for marriage between a man and women. The other side is very good at getting media coverage. We must do the same.

A Must Read

Alan Sears who is with Alliance Defense Fund in Scottsdale has written a thought provoking article on 'Pornography Pretensions.'

One of my favorite lines from the article is:

In truth, no thoughtful legal mind honestly believes that child pornography or hard core obscenity is something the Founding Fathers wanted to actually protect when they penned the First Amendment.

Everything always comes back to money. It is the reason why people are distributing such filth.

Polls

The other day at dinner time, I received a phone call from a national polling center. I always hang up on polls. However, this time I wanted to see if it was about any of the issues I was concerned with. After the taking the time to complete the poll, it made me realize something.

I need to ALWAYS take the time to answer polls.

Polls are on every major news station, every day. Most every news story that deals with elections also includes the latest polling numbers. If I hang up, my voice will never be heard. Only those 'liberal' points of view will be televised each day. I do not want my conservative voice to be lost, because I did not take 5 minutes to take a poll.

Dannon Yogurt and Swingtown

CBS aires the TV show Swingtown which displays very offensive scenes. Among such scenes are:
1. Kids doing drugs and looking at po*n magazines.
2. A high school teacher having a relationship with a student.
3. Adults doing drugs and having group se*.
4. Women going on a tirade about obscenity enforcement (They have a fundraising party for a po*n star).

All of that in only 1 episode.

After repeated attempts to get Dannon to quit advertising during the show, Dannon continues to support and endorse Swingtown.

Please send a letter to Dannon to let them know of your disapproval.

Thank you One Million Moms for bringing this to our attention!

Child Slavery

Tuesday, July 8 on ABC's Nightline will air a story on buying child slaves in Haiti for $150.

Daniel Weiss with Focus on the Family Action said regarding this, "People in the U.S. need to realize that we're contributing to this problem worldwide. Our country is one of the chief exporters of pornography. The message in pornography is that people are objects, to be bought and sold, or thrown away. It shouldn't surprise us when we see a country living this out, as we see in Haiti."

"If we want to get serious about tackling this problem worldwide,
we need to get serious about our problems here at home - our cultural acceptance of pornography."

For more information visit the Nightline website.

Happy 4th Everyone!

In case you don't receive email updates from Glen Beck, I wanted to share some his 4th of July comments.

It's the same thing with the state of our union. This July 4th we're facing some of the toughest times in our recent history. Not only does the corn on the cob cost a lot more than last year, but the drive to the grocery store is so expensive...you have to think of it like a mini vacation. America may be on the ropes, but don't you dare count her out. I saw the last "Rocky" movie the other day, and there's a line that Balboa says to his son that nicely sums up our situation. He says, "It's not how hard you hit, it's how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." You said it Rock--that's America. From the time we declared our independence through the 232 years that have brought us to today, it's never been easy. We've been hit hard and dropped to the canvas once or twice, but we never stayed there for long. Yes, we've had some friends help us along the way, but the one thing that has always gotten us back on our feet is each other. "We the people" are still our best hope, so whether it's gas prices, the financial markets, or the rising price of corn on the cob, we'll take it on the chin and keep moving forward.

Click here to sign a petition to the FCC to support a clean Internet option

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin has proposed an auction of unused airwaves to establish the first-ever free nationwide wireless Internet service--on the condition the winning company creat a network free of pornography.

This is a great option for all of us searching for a way to bring safe Internet into our homes and wireless devices.

Please let the FCC know that there is a group--a big loud group of people-- who want an option for clean Internet.

This issue can be discussed as early as their July meeting, so please sign the petition now!
